Long and lanky, ambitious and driven...Mina Torrez was born to fly. Once a promising pilot, she dreamed of the vast expanse of space...but a flight academy physical resulted in a diagnosis of Type 1 osteogenesis imperfecta...grounding her for good. Torrez' love of flying craft spurred her in a new career direction and she became a top-flight Aviation Tech. Every pilot wants her on the team!

Darn it! Now I have to embarrass myself and gush with praise for this drawing. :shakefist:
You don't just make great costume and layout designs you add character and drama to your images. She is grounded but you can tell a part of her is still up there flying. Beautiful pose, I love the orange uniform. I get the feeling from the open collar and the wild hairstyle that she's a bit of a rebel. I would hate to be her superior officer.
I draw nuthin' but fantasy but Sci-fi is were my heart lives. You got me with this one. Thanks Mr. V!

Thanks, Blaine! Her stance speaks volumes. Grounded...yet not touching the ground. Half in the craft...half not. Focused...but still dreaming! I'm glad you like it...even though I'm not totally pleased with this scanned image. The perils of trusting a machine to interpret my color choices. *rolling eyes* I'm working on striking a better bargain with a new scan...which I will upload if I can manage to get it right. Maybe I'll tweak some details while I'm at it!

I'm a big fan of pilot girls, space and otherwise, even if mine aren't always human. :)

Excellent work. I do like the colors as well and dynamic pose. And it is great to see a universe where not everything is perfect. But it seems she had found a new dream to work on

Nice of you to say, Theunis! I tend to favor creating characters that are believable. The Glamorous and The Glorified certainly have their place...but that's not my style!

Interesting background on Mina - and I can empathise about how one's dreams can be destroyed by a medical condition. Partial colourblindness blocked me from ever becoming an air force pilot...

Exactly, Chris. Empathy for a character is important to the depth of the story (for game-playing or even reading).

Very true. I've read many a story that I couldn't get on with, because I simply couldn't connect with the main characters. On occasion, I've found myself rooting for their enemies because they just left me cold - or annoyed.

Great character design! I love the colors in her hair.

Thanks, Julie! Yeah..the streaking in her hair is designed to promote her defiant against-all-odds attitude. Even though I did this as a "Tech-Babe" challenge...she had to be more than eye-candy.
